Netflix has announced that Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? will hit the platform on September 9, marking the third chapter in the popular film series. New promotional photos have been released, showcasing familiar cast members alongside franchise newcomer Taraji P. Henson.

The film reunites original stars Perry, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, and Lamman Rucker. This time around, the story unfolds during a lavish destination wedding in Lake Como, Italy, as the friend group comes together to celebrate the marriage of Marcus and Angela Williams’ daughter. The reunion, after years of separation, reveals that despite the passage of time, old dynamics resurface.

Joining the returning cast are Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Da’Vinchi, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith II, Derrick A. King, and Sydney Winbush.
Henson steps into the role of Roselyn, described as a formidable and successful businesswoman whose son is getting married in the Lake Como festivities. This marks her second collaboration with Perry, following their work together on Netflix’s 2025 drama Straw. Perry is handling writing, directing, and producing duties, with Angi Bones and Tony Strickland also serving as producers.

Netflix’s official plot description reveals that the friends, having spent significant time apart, discover their now-grown children exhibit striking similarities to themselves. This forces the group to confront the examples they’ve set as parents and revisit the franchise’s signature question: why did they get married in the first place?
The franchise traces back to the original Why Did I Get Married?, based on Perry’s stage production, which followed four couples—all college friends—as their annual reunion trips exposed cracks in their relationships, including cheating, broken trust, and the challenges of sustaining long-term love. The 2010 follow-up, Why Did I Get Married Too?, relocated the action to the Bahamas, where long-hidden secrets tested the couples even further. Both entries performed well commercially and helped propel the careers of several cast members.

This latest installment extends Perry’s continued collaboration with Netflix, a partnership that has already produced successful titles like Madea’s Destination Wedding and Straw—the latter landing in the Top 10 across 93 countries and claiming the number one spot in 62 of them.
Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? arrives on Netflix September 9.
