Naturi Naughton-Lewis is stepping into “The Great Gatsby” on Broadway, taking over the role of Jordan Baker starting July 31. She’s stepping into shoes vacated by Samantha Pauly, an original cast member who wraps up her run in the part on July 26.

For Naughton-Lewis, the casting marks something of a homecoming. Two decades ago she made her Broadway debut in “Hairspray,” and she’s now returning to the stage in a very different kind of role. In a statement, she described the excitement of coming back “as a new woman with new money,” playing the glamorous Jordan Baker, and said she was looking forward to sharing the experience with a live audience.

Naughton-Lewis originally broke into Broadway as a replacement in the “Hairspray” cast, stepping into the role of Little Inez. Beyond the stage, she’s best known for her television work on “Power,” its spinoff “Power Book II: Ghost,” and “Queens,” along with film roles in “Notorious” and “Fame.” Music fans may also recognize her as a former member of the R&B trio 3LW.

She joins a cast that currently includes Reeve Carney as Jay Gatsby, Eva Noblezada as Daisy Buchanan, and Corbin Bleu as Nick Carraway, alongside John Behlmann, Linedy Genao, Charlie Pollock, and Matthew Saldívar in supporting roles.

The musical, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, features a score by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen, a book by Kait Kerrigan, and is directed by Marc Bruni with choreography by Dominique Kelley.
